If you dont know how to play we will teach you. That's our policy here at Bat City Games & Comics. Read on to learn about the game and some easy ways to play in South Austin.
What is Riftbound?
A trading card game means that you can collect cards and make a deck you like. It's made by Riot Games, which makes League of Legends. The cards represent their champions and locations, but you don't have to know the video game to learn the card game. Riot has a rulebook that goes into depth about how to play. We can teach you at the counter too.
How does a game of Riftbound work?
- How to win. Get to 8 points. When you capture a battlefield, you gain a point. Then, at the start of every turn you keep it, you gain another point.
- Your Deck. Every deck will consist of 1 Champion Legend. This determines your champion and which colors you can use. The game has 6 colors. Fury, Calm, Mind, Body, Chaos and Order. Your main deck will be 40 cards. You can only have 3 of each card. You will also have 3 battlefields and a 12-card rune deck.
- Runes. Instead of lands, you will use runes to cast cards. Every turn, you will channel 2 runes. You can use them by tapping them or put them back in your rune deck to use later.
- There are different types of cards. Units will help you take battlefields. Spells will do their job and be discarded. Gear can help your units out.
- Taking Battlefields. Place your champion and units on a battlefield. If your opponent has units on it, your armies will clash. They will deal damage to each other based on their might. Whoever has the most alive units takes the battlefield.
What happens on your turn?
- Awaken. Stand your tapped cards back up.
- Beginning. Score 1 point for each battlefield you hold.
- Channel. Add 2 runes from your rune deck.
- Draw. Draw a card.
- Action. Play cards, move units and start fights.
- End of turn. Damage on units heals, and you pass the turn.
What's the easiest way to start?
- Preconstructed deck. A ready-to-play deck built around one Legend, which you can swap cards into as you collect. Good for: Learning without deckbuilding.
